As you read about Islam, it should become clear that there are some fundamental differences among the three main monotheistic faiths. However, I began the unit with a brief discussion about how each religion share some commonalities. Do you think the differences are great enough to keep these three faiths from ever reconciling enough to co-exist peacefully? Explain your thoughts.
I know this is a difficult question but do not let it discourage you.

As you said this is almost an impossible question to answer but I think that everything in the world has a chance to unite in someways. It has been said that Muhammad was aquainted with Christian and Jewish beliefs as well. If anything, these religions could work out their minor flaws and differences between eachother. I can't quite say accurately what these religions should do to recieve social harmony between them, but only time will tell. I think the differences can be handled if all of the religions agree to take a proper course of action.
I believe that these three religions are all very close and there is no reason why they should be killing each other over it. I mean Jesus which is the one of the most important people in the Christian faith appears in all three religions so I don’t see why they don’t just give up these pointless fights. I think there would be a way to combine the three monotheistic religions to stop the fighting as well as creating unity, sure concessions would need to be made, but I am sure this is a better and more logical choice then Mr. Yip's idea of just blowing the city of Jerusalem although the idea is quite tempting.
the differences arent that big. they are certainly small enough to coexist peacfully.all come from abraham and have simmilar ideas. they have a cheif prophet (be it moses, jesus or mohammad) with a set of beliefs that is law. they all have the same message of one god and faith in him. the rest of the inconsolible differences are in commentary. what stops the peace is the memeory of the past. the crusaeds and religous wars against each other. peace is possible if one leaves behind the past
Considering all of these monotheistic religions have similarities and were built off of one another in the beginning, they could unite at some point. I believe if they really tried, these religions could reconcile and co-exist together. If they compromised on differences peacefully instead of through fighting, much more could be accomplished. Though this possibility seems very far fetched, anything's possible if you have the right mindset and take the proper course of action, as Ed said. With the same common roots, these religions have more in common than they think.
I really don't think that anyone can truley coexist in harmony, for that is just human nature. In any peaceful coexistence, there always lives the fact that there are differences between each of them, and while humans may just try to cover up those differences, they always exist. It is for this reason that no alliance ever lasts forever, and the sake reason that no religions will coexist peacefully. As long as their exists the differences between religions, even though the 3 religions are very similar, they can never truly coexist peacefully. It's not that we may try to live peacefully with others, but just the fact that it's different and not the same god that you worship, is enough to set off fights which lead into wars, which lead to divine events, which will lead to a new religion forming. This has been this way for thousands of years and it is for this reason that the 3 major religions can never truly coexist peacefully.
It is a difficult question but my opinion is that he differences aren't that big for the fighting to cease. I mean Jesus is mentioned in all the monotheistic religouns, they all have the same god, what is the problem? It would be really easy to overcome the differnces and just accept the other sides beliefs. But unfortunately some people are to stubborn and thickheaded to accept that there is difference in the world. I find it funny that the three religouns that preach peace and that god loves everybody and everything kill each other, it's senseless fighting. Maybe one day the three could unite, but I'm positive a unification would start another war as well.

I believe that these religions could coexist in a peaceful manner. They are all very closely related and are based upon the same morals and concepts. The peace is disturbed by the past. If they can put this behind them and reconcile their differences i believe they can achieve harmony.
The differences aren't that big as everyone said, however I agree with Matt. I believe that there will never be 100% complete harmony. People always have their opinions, some are more opinionated then others. Yes, these three religions are all monotheistic. However, there is more to each religion. There obviosuly has to be reasons why they are three different religions. In some way they must differ in beliefs somewhere. If there are such fights about these three religions harmonizing then obviously there are some major differences. Another reason I dont think that these three faiths could co-exist is one Matt brought up. It is human nature to fight, and that alliances don't last forever. For those reasons I believe these three relgions cant co-exist.

since the beginning of each religion all the religious groups have fought. this has gone on for so long that it seems hopeless. each religion is to stubborn to compromise. this is understandable. for example, you and you friend have different views on the same topic. it every now and then you both quarrel over it but your opinions stay the same. because you "know" you are right, you refuse to believe what your friend says. obviously because why would you believe something that you "know" is wrong. you both have similar beliefs but different enough to matter. that is how the feel. the only possible solution that i see is to have the leaders of each of the religions change it slightly over time so people slowly ease into the unified religion.
I’m not going to throw a lot of facts out there of why these three can NEVER reach harmony but, it’s logical why not. First off why does anyone think they could? When has there ever been anything said about TWO very close religions agreeing. There are wars, fights, death, poverty you name it as result of religions not agreeing. Even Christianity and, Catholicism go at it if they are both board on a Sunday. Plus Jesus freaks have nothing better to do anyway. If those two very similar religions can’t agree on anything, why would three closely related religions unify? That’s like saying two starving people fight over the same piece of meet but, three starving people won’t. I know most students were trying to get the blog out of the way but I’m at least thinking logically.

The groups have very different basic rules of practicing their religion. I doubt any of these groups will decide to accept each other’s ways of thinking, so unless people decide to have a new tolerance, or a “live and let live” approach, living peacefully will be difficult. Each group still wants to be the most popular – giving that idea up probably won’t happen. Maybe they will destroy each other so much that the future generations of people left in the world will have no choice but to form a new way of thinking in order to survive together. I agree with what John said - all three of these religions claim that they support peace and love, but it seems that only counts if people are in the same religious group.
I don't think the beliefs are that different at all. In fact, most of our class mixed up the religions due to the fact that they are so close. So the answer to that question yes the are very similar. However, I think that people are to thick headed and stubborn to realize how alike the religioins are. I think this is ironic that (in my opoinion) they wouldn't be able to exist together peacfully. This is because one of the main of objectives of religions is to love your neighbor, yet the same people who claim to be so faithful in that very belief, are the same people fighting over religion. I would also like to add that in my opinion followers of a certain religion shouldn't care what other religions believe or care what people say about their religion. If people are such believers and followers of their religion, then they shouldn't be affected by other religions. Also, if they want to be a such a faithful follower of their religion, then they should follow the laws of it, which I'm pretty sure none say "hate" your nieghbor, or "don't respect your nieghbor.
First off I talked to Miss Oki and she is fine. In Alex’s defense it was merely playful love tap.
Mr. Yip you never fail to dazzle me with your questions that no one can answer. But is it even a question if it can’t be answered? And I know what you’re thinking what about rhetorical questions. The definition of a rhetorical question is something that is asked that does not need to be answered. That setback was just shut down…take that “The Man.” Back to the question, I kind of pulled a Cam Blais there didn’t I? This is a question that if I knew the answer to I would be hoisted above the shoulders of animosity and allowed look into the distant shape of peace upon the horizon that until that moment was hidden. But ego clouds people’s eyes and they cannot see the similarities but only the differences. It is human nature to fight like Kelly said, and the fighting is hidden behind the shroud of religion. In today’s world no one wants to mess with that sticky topic, because they value their lives. The best way to gain followers is make your intentions right by tying them to religious beliefs.
Well I'm going to be hones, I hardly know anything at all about the religion that my family practices let alone two others so here it goes. I do believe that there could be some cooperation between these common religions. It is all about how the message can be received by the people. If the people are taught to understand each of the religions just like we are. They would learn that all three religions are connected in masny ways so through this I believe that would leave oppourtunities for people to decide what they want.
I guess it is possible for all three religions to coexist, however the chances of that happening are low. At times, an individual of a specified religion may be condolent to another, but a small cloaked ingredient is to bring them all closer so that they may get know each other's perspective. With amicable actions and open minds, coexistence between the triumvirate religions is possible. The differences between the three religions may not be much, but how three different individuals think may be.
The three main monotheistic faiths are both similar and different at the same time with some common traits. This is shown because of the same thought process going on when we were made to decide who said what passage or what passage came from what book and most of the kids said Christianity. I don't think that these three faiths could ever co-exist peacefully because what is the point. All this time, you've been fighting for what you "believe in," and now your gonna stop?
These three religions are certainly similar, but in my opinion, there is no way that these three religions will never be able to unite and co-exist peacefully. People are too dumb to realize how close they are in comparison, so instead, they kill each other over it because they think they are right. As Mr. Yip said in class, people don't look at the LARGE similarities of these religions, they look that the small differences between them and which ethnicity follows which. I think the world is too dumb to notice this and therefore these three religions will never unite.
I don't think that the religions will ever coexist peacefully. Whenever you have three groups all thinking that they are right and that the others are idiots, it never ends well. when i gets to the point of JErusalem, I say give it to the Jews. The Christians have the Vatican, The Muslims have Mecca. The Jews were exiled from their home, and they have recently taken it back. More power to them.
All of these Religons would be able to co-exist easily. If there were no people around to kill each other. However, I think that they can. If anything, Islam and Christianity should go hand in hand, and then its like the transitive property in math because Christianity should go hand in hand with Judaism. Mohammed himself knew he was a prophet and he had a message to deliver that Jesus did, but the Christians screwed up that chance to only believe in one God. Mohammed would even use some of Jesus' teachings if I'm correct (sorry Ramzi if this is false), and he would keep trying to speak to people about the idea of one God. So I think that maybe for now we can just drop about 30 strategic nukes around the world so everyone ends up dying. (:
I believe it is plausible that these religions could co-exist together, because they all derived from the same thing in the beginning. After some time each religion could try and voice their own opinions on things. Since christianity and judaism had many mistakes in thier religeous beliefs, some of them would try to force those mistakes onto the islamic. It could go a both ways, but i believe if they tried hard enough they could actually live peacefully
I believe that even though all of the religions seem to be very close in their general beliefs they will not be able to coexist peacefully. Do I think they will all kill each other? No, but different religious groups will not be completely accepting of others. I think this is because when people have a belief the one thing they hate is having someone dismiss their belief. Not that other religions did that, but by believing in something else, one is essentially saying that another’s belief is incorrect.
the three major religions are very similar in many ways. as monotheistic religions they share the belief in one god. of course, these religions are not completely similar and its these differences that cause the fighting. a christian or jew would not like the idea that they screwed up gods message. nor would a muslim like the idea of the trinity. it wouldnt be so hard to coexist with each other, which is happening right now, but it is very difficult to aaccept the other religion and live in complete harmony. it wouldnt happen like that. nobody would lay down their religion for one they thought was wrong. so to answer the question, no i do not think that the goal is achievable.
