Exit Ticket - 12-9-08
The Sophist said the physis is unknowable. In fact, the "truth" is unknowable. The "truth" is relative to each of us. We all hold our own "truth" and no one person's opinion is better than another person. If they are correct and we can never know the "truth," what should people spend their lives doing? What should be important in everyone's lives?

If they are correct, than "truth" to each person would vary depending on our own personal beliefs and views. By each holding our own "truth," we possess the ability to provide what we strive to become. We should therefore spend our lives constantly changing our "truth." By constantly changing our "truth," we would always be becoming or growing. What should be important in our lives would be always changing our "truth" to benefit us in our process of maturing and learning as himan beings.

The Sophists could be correct about their inference of there being no physis or the truth being unknowable. As they suspect this ideal than the idea of processing your own truth comes to play. The truth that people believe should strive with them the rest of their lives. Truth relies on fact so maybe they should continue worshiping the truth and finding ways to support it. I agree with Sarah when with constant change, there is constant becoming or growing.

We should spend our lives staying true to our values and our beliefs. The world and everyone is constantly changing. We are never the same therefore the thruth is never the same. In life we should hold our values close and make sure we live up to them. With our beliefs and our thruths we can become the person who we want to be, reaching goals we want to reach. Even though the thruth is always changing, we believe in our own thruth making those our values in which we hold close.
Even though we can never know the truth like the sophists said, we can at least know what in our own opinion is truthfull. That way we can make our own judgment of what is right and what is wrong. So, what should be important in our lives is what we each think the truth means to ourselves.
Simply to do what you think is right for yourself. To believe in the truth is to truly look deep down and find out what really makes you tick. This thought will help many people to strive for what they want and nobody to take that away from them because it is siimply the way that person is.
Sophists are correct, everyone has their own truths. Since we have our own truths, we should guide our lives by our beliefs. People should spend their lives how ever they want to, what should be important is what you learned, and how you used it. Im not saying to have regrets if you did something wrong, just fix it the next time and move on in life.

I think that people should be outgoing and live life on the wild side. That is what I belive but I am one person with individuel ideas and a person who is timid would not agree with me because that's not how they feel. That is why there is no way to say how everyone should live. Everyone is different. Yes it is important to help others and be good but when it comes living life it's impossible to say how someone should live.
If the truth does not exist, then we shouldnt spend our lives wasting it on trivial journies like finding the truth. I think the sophists were trying to tell their pupils to live life to the fullest by having a a family, becoming wealthy and live your life that you want to live.
If the Sophists were correct, then the truth would be different to each of us. However, people hold these truths inside them and use it everyday most likely, for that is what their life is based on. They might not know that it is their truth, so technically, they have found their physis. People should spend their lives living as they do today, because their opinions are most likely based on this "unknowable truth" and this should be important because that is where our values and standards are set at.
i think that each person should spend their lives seartching for and fuffiling their own personal truths. if truth exists in the eye of the beholder, then people should just pursue what they think is right.
The sophist says the truth is unknowable and maybe he’s right. Yet, I believe that truth is not a mere answer to a question; it is a journey that must be embarked upon to now ones true meaning in life. If truth does not exist as the Sophist says I believe that a person should strive to grasp the closest thing to the truth they can manage. They should cling to this notion as a lifeline in this cruel ocean of a world.
I agree that the we all hold our own truth and that our opinions are all equal. We people should spend our lives doing what we were meant to do. I think what we were meant to do is fully understand ourselves and do something with our lives always evolving into something greater. In everyone's life, them themselves should be important and all the people that are connected to you because without them you could truly not develop to who you are now.
If what the sophists say about the "truth" is correct and we all have our own "truth" then we should spend our life living and constantly building upon our "truth" as we become wiser and more experienced. What should be important in our lives is living by our "truth" and bettering ourselves as our truth grows and changes.
If the Sophist are correct about the truth, then what we should be spending the rest of our life doing is keep true to ourselves by following the "truth". In everyone's life what should be significant, if the Sophist were correct, is to behold the "truth" and make something of your life. To grow upon knowledge and learn from your mistakes bettering yourself.

The sophists may have been correct. It is possible that there is no truth. Truth may be relative. The opinions of people and their beliefs vary upon situations and personalities. This theory is based on the ego. One's self should be a persons biggest concern. One person's "truth" is very different from the next. This is why we should focus on living our lives.

For every individual, opinion is different therefore truths are varied as well. Based upon the Sophists truth is unknowable and relative to each of us. The reality of truth, or what actually is, can’t be confirmed as exact because people never see through the same lens. Experiences and feelings are so entirely different from person. What is considered “truth” is just a particular view at a certain time, from a certain perspective. An ultimate truth can’t be known based on people’s limited knowledge of the world. We should spend our life expressing our own truth, as best we can and discover the changing “truths” as time passes.
People should spend their lives doing whatever they want. If truth is relative, and everyone has their own truth, people should spend their lives looking for or, living their own truth. Some people enjoy the journey, they like puzzles, and trying to find things out. For those people they should spend their lives looking for what they believe their own personal truth is. For people who enjoy the destination, living in the moment, they should spend their lives living what they believe their own personal truth is.
Matt Hoey
Like many of the others said, if the sophists were correct, the truth would vary depending on each other's personal views, religion, ideas on life etc. Everyone has their own "purpose" in life, and that is what they should be fulfilling, what they truly believe in. The truth is "unkowable" because everyone is different and if everyone is different and the truth is in all of us, the truth must be different for all of us.
The truth is, infact, unknowable. So instead of pursuing truth, they could, and should be pursuing what they love. Because if you pursue what you love, you hold onto your personal truth for that bieng the most important thing.
the truth is a term that is open to interpretation. there is no true definition of the truth because the truth must be experienced by a credible source or it could not be the whole truth. what we think is the truth could not be the truth to someone else.
I believe truth is only in the mind. It can't be found in the world just in your mind. The only way people can persuade truth is by you listening to them by you being a higher power. And for as long as you believe the truth you behold you will devend the truth until you fully believe it false.
