What do you know about early humans?

Your first reading assignment (YEA!) in your textbook is p. 2-5 (up to but not including "The Neolithic Revolution"). When you read the text, be sure to read and look at everything - you know, the captions for the pictures, the sidebars, etc.

BUT before you read, tell me what you know about the first humans. Who were they? What did they do? Did they do anything interesting?

Post your comments here by Wednesday, September 3rd.

If you read something interesting, please respond to it.

When I think of the first humans, I immediately focus on a caveman image, complete with fur for clothing. Their whole lives must have revolved around survival. Hunting for food, making clothing out of animal hide, having a fire to keep warm, and making weapons for protection must have been what they spent their time doing. Interesting things they did were making carvings and paintings on cave walls. What I know about early humans comes from what I have seen at the Museum of Natural History in New York City and from one of the episodes of Spongebob Squarepants!! I am sure I will learn a lot more after reading the book.

the early humans were men(and women)that lived in caves hence the term caveman. they move around following and hunting mammoths, there main food source. they evolved over many years from one unpronounceable name to another.

Some of the first descendants were the the cavemens. They must of invented many useful things that they could utilize in their time period. Fire could be one of those things. They could of found out about fire by hitting two rocks together creating a spark, later on trying to get somewhere with those sparks. They could of been the first to draw. Drawing pictures on rocks with other tools..

Well, I know that the secondary name for cavemen are neanderthals. They invented many things of what we use today but ours are just more improved. They invented the wheel which I believe started with a square stone but then was advanced to a circular to improve travel. I also know that they invented fire.

What I know about early humans were that they were a prehistoric type of humans such as cavemen/neanderthols. They wore animal hide as clothing and used rocks and a club or bone as a weapon for hunting food. They were not very intelligent and were very dirty/hairy too.

What I know about cavemen is that they were not exactly civilized people. They lived in caves and hunted their food with spears. They invented fire, which was very useful, and the wheel, which helped a great deal. That is what I know about cavemen.

Matthew Olean-I don’t know much about early humans but i do know that they evolved to become the most intelligent and dominant creatures on the face of the earth. Some of the earliest humans discovered how to make and use the amazing properties of fire. With fire, they were able to progress they’re thinking to the next level. They also made the wheel witch was a huge accomplishment and allowed life to be what it is today. They hunted and migrated with very basic weapons such as the spear and rocks, but despite the obsolete tools they used, the early world humans were able to survive and prosper.

I know that in the early ages the cavemen hunted mammoths and used the bones from them to make their weapons. they also used rocks. I think that they have created fire. They utalised everything they found. For their time they seem very intelligent and creative. The geiko commercials are wrong!

I know that the first humans have evolved from Africa. As they evolved and had larger brains they could addapt to the harsher enviornments of the rest of the world. The early humans almost looked like apes but walked on two legs. Just as their brains evolved their images evolved too. They soon became capable of making weapons and tools to make their lives easier. They invented the wheel and fire and also drew on the walls of caves. That is all I can think of right now and I am sure I will learn more soon.

John Capaldi-From what i know there were different species of man. They were "intelligent" in their own way, they knew how to hunt, how to cook, how to sharpen and create tools and make themselves clothing out of animal skins.

The early humans on earth made use of every thing that they could find, such as rocks and wood. I don't know much more than that.

Thinking back to when we humans first began what I Really Think about is this smelly, hairy, guy crouched over a fire and getting way too excited over a shiny rock he found while searching for some bark to feed too his/her kid. And I know that we think or cave men as totally uncivilized fools. Yet, with out their Rudimentary discoveries of fire, the wheel, and many other basic tools to survival, we would not be where we are today. The cave men were about the smartest creatures around in their time, I call them creatures because that was what they were, they had the same Fundamental instincts as animals: find food, reproduce, and to survive. It may not seem like a glamorous way of life but in a couple thousand years when the people of the future look back at us (if the world lasts that long) we may be considered just as ignorant as cave men.

I, uh, kindof posted in period 3, sorry, ill just copy and paste i guess.

There were different species of early man, such as Homo Erectus, Cro-Magnon and Neanderthals, and up until about 100,000 years ago, Neanderthals coexsisted with modern humans. Most species of early man stood at about 5'5" or just under, some, like the Neanderthals, had a strong upper body, due to the theyre large and robust bone structure, and those grunts must've become different languages as they evolved. Thats pretty much all I got, thanks to a special on the History channel.

I believe that early humans were cavemen. They learned to survive with no modern technology. Ideas of how we live our lives today branched off of those from cavemen. Cavemen worked with eachother. Although they did not start out as civilized, they evolved over time. Cavemen would have needed to hunt and fish for food and develop their own way of communicating. Early humans most likely had roles for men and women which helped establish a community of people.

What I find interesting is Tom's observations that early humans were "creatures" simply following their instincts. However they differed from other creatures due to their intelligence. Also he can forsee a time when future advanced generations can view us today as "uncivilized" and ignorant.

I think the first humans were cavemans. They di the most basic instinct that human has to survive and live. They probably spend their time killing, sleeping, make babies, make clothing. What is interesting is how simple they are compared to us and how they are able to kill big animals with simple weapons.

well, i know that they were in a completely different era than dinosaurs. they were the first to use the most basic of machines. they hunted for food using tools they made themselves. i think they were evolved from the homo erectus species. they evolved the appendix to keep alive on uncooked meat which eventualy became useless with the dicovery of fire. they did not invent fire so much as it was dicovered.

when i think first humans, i always think cavemen. there whole lives were just about survival, how to find food ad shelter. they made tools out of necessity. i guess to me cavemen have always looked like the guys in those car insurance commercials. other then that, i don't know a lot.

Cavemen come to mind when I think of the first humans. Furry almost ape like creatures..such as the guy on the Geiko Commercial. I think that they were a very resourceful and used everything in their environment in different ways in order to survive such as rocks, sticks, and other materials of that nature. That is about all I know about the earliest humans.

When I think of the first humans I think of cavemen. Since they were the first humans I would imagine that they had to find some way to survive. They did not speak how we speak today. They also lived in caves hence the name cavemen. They used stone wheels and created fire.
